Hawaii’s island of Maui is full of fun places to explore. A few of my favorite spots are the many local businesses, each offering something unique to their guests. While honeymooning in Hawaii, my husband and I decided we must visit Haleakala National Park and other fun nearby places. Our day trip worked out perfectly, so I thought I’d pass it along.
Although it is recommended to arrive at Haleakalā summit to watch the sunrise, we couldn’t wake up that early (haha), so we arrived at Haleakalā National Park and climbed the summit at around 7:00am. What an experience it was! We climbed 10,000 feet in our Jeep and the higher we got, the colder it got. When we reached the top of the summit (10,023 ft) we ran into a some wicked fog that made it a bit difficult to see. We were able to get some awesome shots above the clouds and another neat shot of my hubby taking a photograph on what looks like the edge of the world. Freezing from the cold and misty fog, we were ready to head back down the crater. We bought a couple of cute Haleakalā National Park hoodies and hopped in our Jeep in search of a warm place to have breakfast!
In much warmer Kula, we stumbled upon La Provence, a dreamy little cash-only French cafe with outdoor seating, where we had eggs Benedict (of course!) and delicious sweet crepes. I love stumbling upon places like this.
After we filled our bellies we headed to our next destination just a few miles down the road, the beautiful Ali’i Kula Lavender farm. This renowned Maui Lavender farm offers guided tours of their beautiful gardens as well as a gift shop offering Lavender soaps, lotions, and even delicious Lavender scones and jellies. They have a cute scone station set up on a porch overlooking the gardens where you can help yourself to pastry. Their beautiful establishment is a great way to explore all of Maui’s native flowers.
Around lunch time we decided to visit Maui Wines at Ulupalakua Vineyard. If you are a wine lover, this Winery is an absolute must for your next Maui visit! They offer delicious estate wines and their incredibly unique tasting PINEAPPLE wines! All of their Pineapple wine options are delicious. Whether a dry wine fan or a sweet wine fan, there is something for everyone.
Directly across the street from Maui Wines is Ulupalakua Ranch Store, an awesome shop complete with a burger stand! We worked up an appetite so we decided to try one of their famous Bison and Venison burgers with sautéed mushrooms and thick slices of Cheddar cheese! Their juicy and savory burgers definitely hit the spot, especially after wine tasting.
Our next adventure lead us lower Kula where we found Surfing Goat Dairy. Surfing Goat Dairy has been producing award winning Maui gourmet goat cheeses for over 9 years, and if you stop by you can visit with the adorable baby goats and even take a tour to learn how their cheese is made! They offer tastings of all their award winning goat cheese creations, each with a uniquely amazing flavor profile. If I had to pick a favorite it would be their “Diabolical” flavor which consists of jalepeños and Thai dragon chillies, but they are all out-of-this-world delicious! I wish we could order online and have it shipped to us, but it also gives us another reason to return to Maui.
Lastly, since we just loooove to eat, we decided to have dinner at The Mill House restaurant in Waikapu. First of all, the setting at The Mill House is just stunning. I enjoyed the path leading to the Mill House with the beautiful pond and free range hens. The food is just as remarkable as the setting. Executive Chef, Jeff Scheer definitely brings creativity to the table with all of his scrumptious farm-to-table recipes. The Buttermilk Panna Cotta for dessert was a simply wonderful ending to our adventurous day exploring Maui.
